Obituary for John Howard Jr.

Mr. John Howard, Jr., age 86 of Painesville, passed away November 13, 2015 at Harbor Care Assisted Living in Fairport Harbor. He was born September 22, 1929 in Bessemer, Alabama to the late John Sr. and Ethel Fedora (Phillips) Howard.

Mr. Howard was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 2595, the American Legion in Painesville and a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Painesville. He was also a member of the American Disabled Veterans and AMVETS. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a Lake County Deputy Sheriff from 1963 to 1980 as well as Diamond Shamrock for 28 years retiring in 1980. He later worked for Lake County Bank (now Chase Bank) and volunteered for the Lake County Veterans Service Commission. He also volunteered his time with Crippled Children and Adults in Lake County and the Painesville Lions Club.

Mr. Howard is survived by his wife Helen Howard; his children, Edith Haynes of Painesville, Elizabeth Howard of Painesville, and Jessica Howard of Denton, TX; granddaughter Elita Haynes; sisters Vivian Person, Sylvia Rae Howard and Willa Dean Finch.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Everette J. Howard and sister Juanita Fisher .

The family will receive friends Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 424 W. Jackson St., Painesville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Vincent R. Miller, Pastor officiating.

Burial will take place at Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
