Obituary for James Charles Patton Sr.

James Charles  Patton Sr.
James C. Patton, Sr., age 53 passed away February 4, 2017 at his home in Painesville Twp. He was born September 27, 1963 in Ashtabula, Ohio to Richard C. Patton and the late Barbara Ann Carter Patton.

James was a veteran of 22 years in the United States Marine Corps. He served as a Drill Instructor and was Gunnery Sergeant for the Basic School for Officer from 1982 - 2004. After his retirement from active duty he worked for the Department of Defense for 8 years in the Defense Finance Accounting Service and as a carpenter. He was a member of the Carpenters Union in Cleveland. He was also a member of Gunny's Hall in Mentor. James was a 1982 graduate of Riverside High School. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed woodworking in his spare time.

James is survived by his loving girlfriend Susan Koch; his children Trisha Marie Patton, James C. Patton Jr., and Jack L. Patton; grandson Halen James McGeever; father Richard C. Patton; brother David Patton; sisters Marianne (John) Hird, Susan (Brian) Foster and Cathy (Rick) Rugg; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother Barbara Ann Carter Patton and his daughter Susanne Whitney.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Avenue (opposite Lake Erie College), Painesville.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Gerald D. Kalb officiating.

Burial with military honors will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Painesville.
